On Friday afternoon 3 October the Peace Bridge will be officially inaugurate with a Peace Parade with prominent personalities from Belgium and abroad and thousands of children. The National Poet, Charles Ducal, will also recite “Soldaat ‘14-‘18” in Belgium’s three national languages.
On Friday evening 3 October around 7 p.m. Antwerp’s church bells will announce the opening event. The bridge will then be festively opened with an open spectacle on the water. Go to the Scheldt quays for a good view of the opening spectacular “Les Sirènes de la Paix” by Cie Mécanique Vivante. Enjoy the amazing sound and light show. The first people will be able to walk across the bridge, among the enchanting glow cast by the beautiful lighting, as they enjoy the special atmosphere.
The experience continues after your crossing, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the “Boeienweide” (Field of Buoys) and in Frederik van Eedenplein on the Left Bank:
- Artistic audiovisual project “Hellemonden” by “Vonk & Zonen”: twenty tombstones with War Poets.
- Defencevillage: death ride, climbing wall, an introduction to mine clearance, … Win a spectacular maiden flight in a military airplane!
- Nautical scouts island by the Flemish scouts: learn knots, meet a mermaid, climb like a real sailor …
- Pop-up bookstore about WWI, powered by MAS Shop
- Audio trail in the pedestrian tunnel by “De Lijfeigenen”
There also are continuous musical intermezzos and theatre performances. Duvel Dream Boat will provide a covered panoramic terrace where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the bridge! We have also thought of the children. In addition to the permanent play area in the Field of Buoys we have also devised a children’s entertainment programme. Retro catering trucks will serve adapted food and beverages.
Dynamic evening programme
If you have not yet purchased any tickets we recommend choosing an evening slot. On Friday and Saturday evening we will organise a special dance programme. On Friday evening Let's Go Urban and Konichiwa Crew will given Spoken Word artists, a live band, DJs and dancers the opportunity to take an urban journey through time, from the past to the present during the Urban Memorial. On Saturday evening “the house of swings” Radio Modern, Radio Musette on this occasion, will let you travel back in time on the Left Bank with music from the Forties and Fifties.
